5 Chicago Bears players firmly on the 53-man roster bubble
1. Jake Curhan
Jake Curhan is the classic roster bubble player. He signed here from Seattle, meaning he has experience in the Shane Waldron offense. Beyond that, he is the backup right tackle for all intents and purposes. This should be a strong case for him to stay on the initial 53-man.
However, the Bears have their five starters plus Ryan Bates, Matt Pryor, and Kiran Amegadjie. They have eight linemen, so only room for one and maybe two more players.
Amegadjie is a tackle and Pryor is a swing player who could play guard and tackle. So, if an injury to Wright occurred, would they really need Curhan, or would they lean on one of those two?
On the flip side, the rookie has hardly even practiced, so do the Bears really think he can be active on game day week one? Pryor can play tackle but has not done so at all this preseason. The argument for Curhan can easily go both ways right now. It is easy to say that he is as close to a 50-50 chance as you can see with less than a week to go.
