6 Chicago Bears who are key to a victory over the Texans
Coleman Shelton, C
The interior of the Chicago Bears offensive line did not play well in Week 1. Nate Davis and Ryan Bates emulated what we saw with Teven Jenkins when he was in the dog house and had to prove himself in 2022. Jenkins proved to be the better guard. This time the Bears will need to lean on Nate Davis because Ryan Bates has been ruled out as he continues to deal with his shoulder injury.
Between Davis, Bates, Jenkins and Coleman Shelton, the Chicago Bears struggled mightly on the interior of the offensive line in Week 1. The matchup is more favorable for the Bears this time around. With Bates already ruled out for Sunday night, Shelton has to come ready to rebound after his poor performance against the Titans. In his defense, Jeffrey Simmons is one of the best interior defensive linemen in the game. Just glad to see the Titans and Simmons fall short seeing he likes to run his mouth.
If Shelton can perform in a similar fashion to what we saw in the preseason, then Caleb Williams should look better this week. D'Andre Swift and Khalil Herbert should also find some room to run this week. Swift averaged 3.0 yards per carry while Herbert averaged only 2.0. Something tells me they perform better this week and Shelton will be a key to that success.
