The Chicago Bears made a trade right before the weekend, acquiring Darrell Taylor from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a sixth-round pick in next year's draft.

It's no secret that the Bears tried to land Matthew Judon from the Patriots but missed out on their chance to do so and now Taylor is their consulation prize. While Taylor isn't quite at the level that Judon is, he's still a pretty good acquisition for Chicago as the team enters what could be a very fun window of competitiveness.

Bears miss on Judon but add solid consulation prize in Darrell Taylor

Would it have been nice to have Judon on this defense? Sure. But by trading for Taylor, Ryan Poles showed that he knows what he's doing when it comes to building a roster that can compete in what's going to be a tough NFC North for years to come.

The Bears didn't have to give up a third-round pick like the Falcons did in exchange for Judon. They flipped a lower draft pick and while the guy they're getting in return isn't as well-known as Judon, he's still going to add a nice depth piece to a group that needed it.

A second-round pick in 2020 out of Tennessee, Taylor totaled 5.5 sacks and eight QB hits during the 2023 season with the Seahawks. He's had 21.5 sacks during his three years in the league and has notched 22 tackles for loss during that time.

Maybe Taylor's not a household name but he fills a need in Chicago and that's what matters most right now. Plus, the Bears didn't have to give up much at all to bring him to the Windy City.

I'll give this trade a B+ grade because they didn't have to part with much and looked to have received a solid piece in return. Let's hope Taylor can turn that grade into an A down the road.
