Bears fans have already gotten their first big win of the year over the Packers

And it definitely counts.

I certainly didn't need to tell you this, but Bears fans are pretty stoked about the season. Getting a franchise QB, widely considered one of the best prospects of the last decade, will do that to a person. The whole "young, ascending defense with a roster of actual NFL-caliber pass catchers" certainly helps, but let's not kid ourselves: it's mostly the QB thing. And yeah, Bears fans are like this every year – this one's different though. They even have a new Bear Claw hand celebration and everything!

So it probably shouldn't come as much of a surprise to anyone that Bears fans are among the most optimistic group out there this season. In a very new, very scientific poll conducted by The Athletic, Bears fans are supposedly the third-most hopeful fan base in the NFL – with a 97.6 percent optimism score, whatever that means – and only finished behind the Lions and the Chiefs. (The Lions I understand, but the Chiefs feels gross. We get it, guys.) The quotes are exactly what you'd expect from a Bears fan.

Bears fans finally have hope once again, which definitely won't backfire this time

"Optimist Tom: Caleb. Williams. I could talk about a defense that appears suffocating and an offensive scheme that finally seems to be professional, but the truth is optimism comes from a confident quarterback."

"Optimist Jim: I believe for the first time in many years the Bears have real leadership in the front office, a clear sense of where they want to go and a real plan for how to get there."

Tom and Jim have definitely already bough Caleb Williams jerseys in multiple colors and are waiting for their Rome Odunze jerseys to ship. You just know their closet is overflowing in pic-art logo tees from CHGO. It's hard to blame them, too – the Bears look like a legitimately fun team this year, even if the win total doesn't end up appropriately reflecting that. You know the Kool Aid has been drank when taking a punter in the 4th round is universally praised as a 4-D chess move.

And if things go south, they can just go back to being pessimistic by Thanksgiving, which is nothing new for Bears fans. Trying something new can be fun!
