Bears had a major D.J. Moore injury scare at training camp
By Ryan Heckman
Up to this point, the vibes were all positive at Chicago Bears training camp.
No. 1 pick Caleb Williams is looking like a seasoned veteran, especially after his preseason debut last weekend in Buffalo. The offense is being challenged by a defense that should push to be a top-10, or even a top-5 unit this season. Skill position groups are as deep as they've ever been.
The entire offseason had evolved into one, gigantic win for the Bears as an organization. Even getting deals done with the likes of Jaylon Johnson and D.J. Moore, general manager Ryan Poles made it known that he meant business and was putting this team in position for long-term success.
Things were going just dandy ... until they weren't.
Speaking of Moore, who is fresh off a newly-signed contract extension, the Bears received quite a scare during practice on Wednesday.
The wide receiver was shaken up after a play and was seen visibly limping. Moore was immediately looked at by trainers as everyone in attendance held their breath.
Fortunately, a little later on in practice, Moore put his helmet back on and appeared ready to rock.
Bears avoided a nightmare scenario after D.J. Moore injury scare
At the moment, it looks like Moore is going to be just fine and the Bears avoided what could have been a nightmare.
Moore's impact on the team has been felt immensely since being traded to Chicago. Fans have even gotten a chance to see an up-close view of the wideout, behind the scenes, on HBO's Hard Knocks, which has done a masterful job showing the type of player, teammate and family man the Bears have in Moore.
Moore is coming off a career season which saw him haul in 96 passes for 1,364 yards and eight touchdowns. The skill set and play style of Moore is always a threat, with the latter being nothing short of infectious. Seeing him catch a pass and refuse to go down, running through three defenders in last week's preseason contest, reminded everyone of how much the man loves this game.
The passion and personality from Moore have helped shape this Bears culture over the 2024 offseason, building relationships with the likes of Williams, Keenan Allen, Rome Odunze and more. He's a leader. He's far more talented than some have credited him for over the last few years.
Losing Moore would have thrown off all the good vibes in Bears camp. Sure, Matt Eberflus and company would preach the "next man up" mentality. But, this might be the only season we see a trio of Moore, Allen and Odunze because of Allen being on the last year of his contract.
Fans are dying to see this trio in action, and for a full season, God willing.
