Bears' major free agent addition already labeled as biggest bust of 2024 season
The Bears report to training camp today (at least the rookies do), so what better way to celebrate than being a huge bummer? As football gets underway again, it's important to remember that your favorite team is full of potential busts and probably won't win nearly enough games.
And who better to really nail that point home than Bleacher Report, who have been the go-to summer spot for depressing NFL content. 10 reasons why your team sucks? They've got it. A prediction that Caleb Williams may retire early? They're on it. And more recently, they did us the kindness of going team-by-team to decide which player will be the biggest bust of 2024, a very normal and fun thing to do in these exciting first days of the season. Their Bears pick will not surprise you for one single second.
D'Andre Swift named Bears' biggest bust of 2024
Chicago charged after D'Andre Swift and rapidly signed him to a three-year contract in free agency. He's been a decently efficient player through four seasons, too. The offensive line is still an issue, though, and the Bears' strength is now at receiver with Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze joining DJ Moore. Swift, who totaled 1,263 scrimmage yards in 2023, might not come close to that number in 2024.
A highly-paid running back may not quite live up to expectations in 2024? BR's really calling their shot here. I'm surprised they didn't find a way to mention that the Bears have never had a single-season 4,000 yard passer. Or that people forget how they passed on Patrick Mahomes to draft Mitch Trubisky. This is why BR gets the big bucks – they'll bravely go places where us tepid sports blogs aren't willing too. Just wait until they find out that Odunze and Caleb Williams haven't signed their rookie deals yet!
