Bill Belichick calls out Caleb Williams with grumpy hot take about preseason stats

Another TV pundit's opinion, just what we needed.

Caleb Williams' debut is but a few short days away, and there's no getting off the ride at this point. A few moments of sublime joy scattered through a couple dozen preseason snaps has Bears fans in a frenzy heading into Week 1, which this time feels distinctly different than the usual frenzy Bears fans are in heading into Week 1. He may actually be The Guy – and if he's not, that's a problem for Week 5 of 2026. For now, Caleb Williams is the best QB that Bears fans have ever seen and maybe even the best QB that anyone will ever see.

That is, unless you're Bill Belichick. The media darling was recently on one of his several different shows – where everyone just kinda sits around staring at him while trying to decide if he's joking or not – and Williams' preseason performance came up. The podcasting star's opinion was, uh, not super flattering.

Bill Belichick isn't sold on Caleb Williams, but what does he know

"Well, he wasn't accurate," Belichick said when asked about Williams' performances. "He was 10-for-20. They weren't that good. There were a couple highlight plays, but they weren't that good."

Wooooooof. I gueses Belichick hasn't broken the tape down as much as Bears Twitter has, because otherwise this take makes no sense. There was arm talent! And flair! And off-platform throws! He even scrambled that one time. I get that now every basement-living content creator like Belichick can have a platform to give their football takes, but he should probably save the real film study for guys who are actually in the league.

Fortunately for the Bears, real coaches with actual NFL pedigree – like Matt Eberflus – are fully sold on Williams. They don't have to worry about the pundits and talking heads just trying to fire off their hottest takes for clicks. This is just the latest example of another flash-in-the-pan blogger trying to make a name for himself on the internet, and Bears fans are smart enough to know not to bite at that. Those 10 completions were some of the best 10 completions in the history of modern Bears preseason. It's not our fault that Belichick doesn't seem to know what competant QB play looks like.
