6. Roschon Johnson leads Chicago Bears running backs in all categories

The Chicago Bears are going to have a running back by committee this year. This was pretty clear when the team let David Montgomery walk and then added D'onta Foreman, Roschon Johnson, and Travis Homer for a cheaper overall cost than Montgomery will be making yearly. So, the plan is likely to split the Montgomery carries up.

Most would assume that Herbert and Foreman will be the leaders of the main three backs to get carries. However, there is a good chance that Johnson could be that guy. While he is a fourth-round pick, we have seen plenty of fourth-round rookies take over a backfield.

Johnson is going to get on the field because he can pass protect. However, more important than that, he also knows how to hit the hole and can push the pile with power. So, the Chicago Bears can use him in all areas. Both Herbert and Foreman are poor in the passing game, and Herbert has speed and lacks power, while Foreman has power and lacks speed. Johnson is a blend of both with fewer weaknesses.

The fact that all three will split the work makes it a lower bar for Johnson to clear to be that number one guy. Still, rushing, receiving, and goal-line work could all go to Johnson, and he may end up as the top back by the end of the year.
