3 bold predictions for Chicago Bears defensive line in 2023
2. Gervon Dexter will lead Chicago Bears interior pass rushers in sacks
The talk out of training camp is that Gervon Dexter is running hot and cold. That makes sense, and it fits his draft profile. If you liked the pick, it was because he has such a high ceiling; if you hated the pick it was because his floor was so low.
Dexter has had questions with his get-off since college as well. As the coaches in Chicago have said, it is far more about leverage and technique than it is about physical ability. The ability is there, the coaches need to unlock it. We think they will.
The reality is that Justin Jones hit three sacks as a career-high last year. Zacch Pickens is a fellow rookie, and Andrew Billings was signed to defend the run. It may only take three sacks for this prediction to come true. Even if Dexter is inconsistent, it would just take three plays where he times it right and gets out of his stance. That seems plausible.
