Chicago Bears 2023 NFL Draft: Final seven-round mock draft leaves many fans excited
Chicago Bears Draft Pick No. 69: Luke Musgrave, TE - Oregon State
When I originally moved back, I had plans to take a different position here. I was leaning toward
the top cornerback on my board in D.J. Turner. Turner went off the board at 67 and that is the unfortunate risk you take when moving back -- even if only a few spots.
The one player that was glaring back at me though and ranked even higher on my board than Turner was Luke Musgrave. Although tight end is not really a need for the Chicago Bears this offseason, adding a playmaker like Musgrave was too good to pass up. This is incredible value here as Musgrave is my third-highest-ranked tight end. I have him ranked slightly behind Dalton Kincaid.
If you select Musgrave, you are not expecting him to help much in the blocking game. He is a receiving threat with great speed and separation skills. He has soft hands and does not rely on his body to catch the football. He uses his quickness off the line of scrimmage and finds open space in zone coverage. He has the ability to outrun and make big plays as a mismatch against slower linebackers as well. Musgrave could push Robert Tonyan for playing time during his rookie season and gives Justin Fields another weapon to rely on.
