The NFL regular season is here as the Chicago Bears will open the 2024 season with a home game at Soldier Field next Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

Of course, one of the first signs of any regular-season game is when the team captains take the field for the coin toss before the game. On Monday, the Bears announced their 2024 captains.

In most seasons, the starting quarterback of a team is going to be named a captain as it sets the precedent in the locker room. Having said that, there is slightly more significance to Caleb Williams being named a Bears' captain for his rookie season.

Latest Caleb Williams' honor proves there was never a character concern.

In the months leading up to the 2024 NFL Draft, many Bears fans were conflicted with the idea of the Bears moving on from Justin Fields in favor of Williams. The fear was that since Fields had the respect of the Bears' locker room with other leaders such as Jaylon Johnson and DJ Moore being vocal about their support, Williams' arrival could create a divide.

In the months since the Bears took Williams and traded Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers, it's become clear that the questions about Williams' character were unfounded. Not only has Williams proved every hot take about his character wrong, but he has seamlessly become the face of the organization while winning over the fan base and locker room with each appearance he has.

The other captains for the Bears this season are players you have come to expect. Not only was the 2023 season a breakout season for Jaylon Johnson, but it was also one in which he became the leader of the Bears' defensive unit. DJ Moore has been nothing but a pillar for the Bears' offense since being acquired last offseason, and a four-year extension has solidified his long-term future with the team.

New addition to the secondary, veteran safety Kevin Byard, is also picking up where Eddie Jackson left off. Jackson, now with the Baltimore Ravens, was the unquestioned leader of the Bears' secondary during his tenure in Chicago and Byard seems to have taken the torch in being a veteran presence for the defense.
