It is a little premature to be projecting the 53-man roster, but what else are we supposed to talk about in May? This is the start of the slowest time of the NFL calendar year. Sure, the team will be hosting voluntary minicamps and gearing up for training camp, but there is not a great amount of breaking news at this point. With the 2023 NFL Draft behind us, we are all waiting to hear about Ryan Poles making a trade for a defensive end or at least adding one in free agency.

The team has plenty of new faces. Now, it is a matter of trying to determine who not only makes the back end of the roster, but who pushes for actual playing time. Some of the depth chart is already determined, however, there are more questions than answers right now. Let's knock out the easiest of the bunch first -- the quarterback position.

The Chicago Bears quarterback depth chart is nearly locked into place

QB Depth Chart

  • Justin Fields
  • P.J. Walker
  • Tyson Bagent

Obviously, Justin Fields is the starting quarterback of the Chicago Bears. There isn't any chance that anyone on the current roster supplants him. P.J. Walker seems like the clear-cut favorite to hold down the backup QB spot. The only spot that I think could be up for grabs is the QB3 spot. News broke today that teams will be able to dress a third quarterback and activate him should they lose their starter and second-stringer. This quarterback will serve as the "emergency quarterback" and I think Tyson Bagent finds a way to take over the final spot from Nathan Peterman.
