Now that the Chicago Bears' first preseason game is in the books we have a better idea of where each player stands on the roster. So, it is the perfect time to project the latest 53-man roster for the team. Who should make the team, and who just misses?

Quarterback (3): Caleb Williams, Tyson Bagent, Brett Rypien

This should be no surprise. Brett Rypien played so well in the preseason opener that if he was cut, another team would snag him.

Running back (5): D’Andre Swift, Khalil Herbert, Roschon Johnson, Travis Homer, Khari Blasingame

Travis Homer is banged up, but he has a history with Shane Waldron and played special teams well last year. The rest is set in stone at this position.

Wide Receiver (6): DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, Keenan Allen, Tyler Scott, Velus Jones, Collin Johnson

The question here comes down to numbers 4-6. Will it be three players or just two, and are those the three players? Jones has a return game appeal, and Johnson made a case for the roster this past week.

Tight End (3): Cole Kmet, Gerald Everett, Marcedes Lewis

If the Bears do keep six wide receivers they seem unlikely to keep a fourth tight end. Khari Blasingame can help the lack of depth as well.

Offensive Line (9): Braxton Jones, Teven Jenkins, Nate Davis, Ryan Bates, Darnell Wright, Jake Curhan, Ja’Tyre Carter, Coleman Shelton, Matt Pryor

The more that time passes, the more that you can assume that Kiran Amegadije will start the season on some sort of injured list. The question will be whether they get him to a point where he can play, or if his rookie season may be lost. The rest seem to fall into place after that decision is made.

Defensive Line (8): Montez Sweat, DeMarcus Walker, Jacob Martin, Austin Booker, Andrew Billings, Gervon Dexter, Zacch Pickens, Byron Cowart

Will Dominique Robinson make it, and will Michael Dwumfour beat out Byron Cowart? Those are the big questions at this position.

Linebacker (6): TJ Edwards, Tremaine Edmunds, Jack Sanborn, Amen Ogbongemiga, Noah Sewell, Micah Baskerville

The Bears may not need this many linebackers, but the bottom three all have significant roles on special teams, and we know Matt Eberflus values the position.

Cornerback (6): Jaylon Johnson, Tyrique Stevenson, Kyler Gordon, Terell Smith, Jaylon Jones, Greg Stroman

The first four are locked in. Jaylon Jones has shown enough, and Greg Stroman appears to be the backup in the slot. The question will be if Jones makes it, and if Josh Blackwell can pass up Stroman to be the backup.

Safety (4): Jaquan Brisker, Kevin Byard, Jonathan Owens, Elijah Hicks

These four seem locked in, although Quindell Johnson could beat out Elijah Hicks with special teams prowess.

Special Teams (3): Cairo Santos, Tory Taylor, Patrick Scales

There are no questions here.
