Chicago Bears Draft Target: Devon Witherspoon, CB - Illinois

Although many Chicago Bears fans would lose their minds, I would not rule out the probability of Ryan Poles selecting a cornerback with the ninth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The team is in need of a third corner and if Poles were to add a player like Devon Witherspoon, the backfield might be one of the best in the NFL.

Witherspoon comes with some question marks regarding his size. He is 5'11" but only weighs in at 181 pounds. This was actually pleasing to see when he took his measurements because some expected him to be in the 170s. Even at 181, you have to be a little concerned about his frame. That said, the rest of the package looks superb.

When watching Witherspoon, two things really stand out in his game. First, he is a great tackler. He takes good angles and makes smart decisions when taking care of the ball carrier. Second, Witherspoon has high football intelligence and is able to play the ball very well. He has good instincts and hands that allow him to get a jump on routes. He finished with three interceptions in 2022. Even more impressive is that quarterbacks saw less than a 36% completion percentage when throwing in Witherspoon's direction. He'd make for an excellent choice at ninth overall should he fall.
