5. Ben Johnson, Offensive Coordinator, Detroit Lions

Finally, maybe the hottest head coaching candidate next offseason is going to be Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. Last season, he had the opportunity to interview for head coaching vacancies but turned them down in order to stay in Detroit at least one more year.

Johnson has been with Detroit since 2019 when he began there as the offensive quality control coach, working his way all the way up to where he's at now. Last season, Johnson led the Lions to finish with the league's fourth-ranked offense overall. This season, they sit at no. 8 through Week 3.

The Lions offense has been great under Johnson, and what's been most impressive is his work with Jared Goff. Many believed Goff was going to be highly replaceable after the Matthew Stafford trade, but instead, Goff has found major success under Johnson and looks like a long-term staple in Detroit.

Johnson will get a head coaching gig next year if he so desires, and Chicago would be wise to give him his shot.
