Are Chicago Bears comfortable trading back further in the draft?

The Chicago Bears are going to be looking to unload the number one overall pick, and Ryan Poles said himself that the trade could come as soon as this weekend. Ryan Poles said a lot in the first time the media got to talk to him since the NFL season came to an end.

Peter King, one of the NFL's premier writers had a long sit down with Poles where they discussed his plans for the pick. The entire article is worth the read, but the following is huge for Chicago Bears fans to follow.

Ryan Poles said he expects to get a first-round pick in 2024, and also a first-round pick in 2025 if he moves back. That is a lot, but it may lead to a bigger takeaway. Poles sees the draft having six to eight blue chip players, not one or two.

When you put that together, you think that the team is more interested in moving further down the board than just to two or four. The early thought was that the Texans and Colts would give you a little something and you could stay in the top four.

However, Poles seems to be as comfortable picking fourth as he would picking ninth. So, he may be looking to get more assets. To trade down to number two, the Texans will not even offer a future first-round pick.

The Indianapolis Colts may offer a first-round pick next year, but that may be all that they offer to move from four to one. Another pick here, and there, but it is so hard to see the Colts actually giving into the demands that Poles just made.

The teams who may move their first-round picks in both 2024, and 2025 are the teams further down the board. Mainly, the Las Vegas Raiders, Atlanta Falcons, and Carolina Panthers.

Sitting at 7, 8, and 9, the Chicago Bears could trade down with any of them, and still get one of the top six to eight guys on their board. If you assume that quarterback is not one of those players, and two quarterbacks go in the top eight picks, they will easily get a guy they love.

Beyond that, if it did cost one first for the Colts to move from four to one, you could see the Panthers doubling the Colts offer, and the Chicago Bears walking away with a couple of first-round picks in the future.

Ryan Poles said this pick could set them up for the long term because of how far they can stretch it out. This is not the talk of someone who wants to stay in the top five and get a top player. This sounds like a GM who wants as big of a haul as possible and does not care about how high he picks.

The Chicago Bears could trade back much further than many initially suspected.
