In a game that felt like a prime opportunity for the Chicago Bears to get the train back on track, the Bears fell short— once again— in their Week 2 matchup against Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Yes, Baker Mayfield was able to light up the Matt Eberflus-led Chicago Bears defense. On 34 attempts, Mayfield had 26 completions, 317 yards, and a touchdown. Not too shabby for a guy who's bounced around the league a few times after being a No. 1 overall draft pick in 2018.

Unironically, the Chicago Bears made Baker look like Patrick Mahomes.

Chicago Bears Week 2 Loss continues disappointing 2023 season

For a head coach touted as being a strong defensive mind, that side of the ball has been wildly embarrassing. Whether it be blown coverage, the inability to stop the run, or not being able to sack a quarterback, the Chicago Bears have been disappointing defensively.

While both sides of the ball had flashes of competency, those flashes were oftentimes topped by disappointment.

And while there are multiple hands worth of fingers to point as to who should own up to this loss, it's a team game. The Chicago Bears as a whole were not better than the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It's just that simple. Tampa Bay came ready to play, and the Chicago Bears didn't.

So far in the 2023 season, that's been the Bears' M.O.

If this game was decided by one or two plays, okay, but, there were multiple opportunities for the Bears to seize the moment and make something happen. Yet, here the Bears are, 0-2 to start the year.

Every time something would go well for the Chicago Bears:

If the Chicago Bears kept a stat of how many times they shoot themselves in the foot on drives with scoring potential, it might be their best stat historically.

In the first two games of the 2023 season, the Chicago Bears have committed 14 penalties for 116 yards. For a team that has division-leading aspirations, this is a part of their game that needs to get cleaned up now.

And if it's not cleaned up, the Chicago Bears will continue to be the disappointing ol' Chicago Bears that fans have come to love.

Speaking of disappointing players, let's take a closer look at Week 2 to see which Chicago Bears disappointed most.
