The Chicago Bears have already made changes at numerous positions in the early stages of the 2023 NFL offseason. Several of these changes have come at running back. Chicago opted to let David Montgomery sign with division rival Detroit Lions in favor of cheaper veterans Travis Homer and D’Onta Foreman.

This gives the Bears a running back room of Khalil Herbert, Homer, Foreman, and possibly Trestan Ebner for the 2023 season. While running back may not be the Bears’ biggest need for next season, the position does currently lack a true featured back.

All three of the running backs currently on Chicago’s roster have a distinct skill set, but for the most part, they appear to be more auxiliary players rather than stand-alone backs.

If Ryan Poles isn’t done looking at running backs, he should look no further than the upcoming draft. Given the position’s expedited prime, running backs are often the most impactful on their rookie deal, making for optimal return on investment.

Like most years, this class boasts several solid running back prospects, ranging from surefire first-rounders, to day-three flyers. This gives the Bears a wide array of options of who they can take and when they choose to take them.

Four years ago, general manager Ryan Pace traded Jordan Howard to the Eagles and drafted Montgomery in the third round of the 2019 draft, and now that Montgomery is no longer in Chicago, Poles would be wise to pull a similar move.

With the NFL draft only weeks away, here are five running back prospects the Bears could look to target.
