Chicago Bears Free Agency: Identifying the best offensive free agents at each position
Will Cody Whitehair be in a Chicago Bears uniform this season?
If I am Ryan Poles, I am moving on from Cody Whitehair this offseason. Designating him as a post-June 1 cut saves the Bears $9.9 million. The team has $75 million to work with after the D.J. Moore trade, but Whitehair just isn't worthy of his current contract and the team should move on. The fact they haven't yet makes me wonder if they are planning on keeping him. I'm hoping they make the announcement of Whitehair's release soon. Here are a few guys who would be upgrades and cost less than Whitehair.
- Will Hernandez
- Isaac Seumalo
- Dalton Risner
- Ben Powers
- Nate Davis
- Andrew Wylie
I'm not going to have a right guard spot as Teven Jenkins is the only guy I want to see start at right guard for the Chicago Bears in 2023. Most guards are interchangeable as it's easier to transition from left to right and right to left as a guard compared to an offensive tackle. If Ryan Poles moves on from Cody Whitehair as I, and many Bears fans would like, then there is one name that makes the most sense to me here.
My Bears Choice: Ben Powers
There are some solid names on this list, but give me the left guard who is only 26 and played in a Ravens offense that also excels with a quarterback who can outrun almost any defender and scrambles to extend plays. He is a perfect fit for the Bears' offense and matches the athletic profile that Ryan Poles likes in his offensive linemen.
