Chicago Bears Free Agency: Identifying the best offensive free agents at each position
The Chicago Bears also need depth at tight end
This brings us to the final position for the Chicago Bears to look at this offseason. The tight end position looks bright with Cole Kmet coming off his best season. He led the team with seven touchdowns and showed nice chemistry with Justin Fields. Therefore, I don't think the team needs to spend big money on any free agent tight ends like Mike Gesicki or Dalton Schultz. Instead, the team should consider one of these names instead.
- Robert Tonyan
- Kyle Rudolph
- Irv Smith, Jr.
- Drew Sample
- O.J. Howard
- Foster Moreau
My Bears Choice: Robert Tonyan
With the top guys not being considered, I'd probably look to bring in Robert Tonyan as the TE2 in this offense. Tonyan had one very successful year as a receiver in Green Bay, but outside of that he's been nothing more than an average tight end. He has familiarity with Luke Getsy and the type of offensive schemes Getsy likes to run. Adding him to the mist makes too much sense despite not having the upside as some of the other names on this list. If Poles wants upside, then Irv Smith is the guy here.
Next up will be the defensive side of the ball. Hoping to have that finished this afternoon or tonight with an early-morning release since legal tampering for free agency officially starts tomorrow. I am hoping that I can have it published before any news breaks. We shall see. Until then, enjoy free agency, enjoy the excitement and Bear Down!
