Chicago Bears Roster: 3 Under-the-radar offensive free agents the Bears could add
The Chicago Bears could still look to add some free agents to help finalize the 2023 roster. Ryan Poles does not make snap decisions. He is very calculated in his decisions. I don't see him making many, if any, moves prior to June 1, 2023. I think he might be looking to see who is released as teams wait for that post-June 1 cut date. Teams can spread the dead cap hit over two years if a player is cut or at least designated as a post-June 1 cut. The only exception for the Chicago Bears could be a move that adds an edge rusher via trade or free agency.
As the team looks to continue to build for success, bodies will need to be added to the roster. Some might be here as camp bodies. However, others could actually make a strong impact on this team. We saw Ryan Poles make moves late into the offseason last year when he signed offensive linemen Michael Schofield and Riley Reiff. I could see him making similar moves this year too. Everyone is hung up on names like Yannick Ngakoue, Leonard Floyd and Frank Clark. However, there are some other under-the-radar free agents who make just as much sense.
Before we look at three players who I think make sense for the Chicago Bears, let's name a few guys who do not. Ezekiel Elliott is not someone I'd like to see here in Chicago. He has plenty of miles on those legs and does not fit the scheme here well enough for me. In fact, I'm not looking at any of the remaining free-agent running backs as I think that roster position is set. Quarterback is another area that does not need to be addressed.
Wide receiver may look drastically improved, but I'd be happy with bringing in more bodies to round out the back of the depth chart. The offensive line could use some help and I would not rule out the tight end position. Let's see who fits.
