Chicago Bears Roster: 3 Under-the-radar offensive free agents the Bears could add
Chicago Bears Free Agent Target: Cameron Brate, TE
Did you know that Cameron Brate is from Illinois? He was born and went to school in Naperville. At the age of 31 (32 in July), I don't think it would be a stretch to think he'd want to return home and play in front of essentially his hometown. The Chicago Bears could use another tight end on the roster despite having Cole Kmet and Robert Tonyan. I was a little surprised they did not draft one. Kmet, Tonyan and Brate would make for a very strong trio.
Brate was never elite, but he brings a great deal of experience, not to mention Super Bowl experience, to the table. He is a solid red zone threat and adds a little to the receiving game despite never gaining more than 700 yards in a season. He is coming off a disappointing year last year when he didn't score a single touchdown and only started one game. He has not eclipsed 350 yards in a season since 2017.
Cameron Brate might not be interested in coming to Chicago because of the team's current situation. They might earn or luck into a playoff spot, but they are not a true Super Bowl contender. At this point in Brate's career, he may be looking for a true Super Bowl contender. However, he already has a ring and I still think the idea of coming home could be enticing.
