We are done with the first day of the NFL legal tampering period. Free agency will become official on Wednesday. As of now, terms have been agreed to with teams on a decent amount of free agents, but as we clearly know here in Chicago, until the ink is dry anything can happen. Last season, Ryan Poles agreed to terms with Larry Ogunjobi to start free agency. Once free agency became official and Ogunjobi took his physical and didn't pass, the Chicago Bears cut ties and pivoted to Justin Jones.

As of now, the Chicago Bears have agreed to terms with four players - T.J. Edwards, Nate Davis, Tremaine Edmunds, and DeMarcus Williams. Ryan Poles has a bunch of money to spend to hit the minimum spending amount set by the NFL and he should not be done yet. There is more work to be done and here are three free agents he needs to consider.

The Chicago Bears should look to sign right tackle, Kaleb McGary

Former Atlanta Falcon Kaleb McGary might not have been the number one tackle heading into the free agency period, but with Jawan Taylor and Mike McGlinchey off the board, McGary would be a solid investment to sure up the offensive line and give the team options heading into the NFL Draft. However, McGary would be more than a solid consolation prize for the Bears, as the former 31st overall pick started at right tackle for four seasons with Atlanta, starting in all but four games over his time as a pro.

As a player, McGary is rarely penalized (less than four penalties per year) and is known across the league as a strong run blocker. As a pass blocker, McGary leaves something to be desired but is certainly improving, as he went from nine sacks allowed in 2021 to just six allowed a season ago. McGary might not be the eye-popping tackle you would hope to put in front of Justin Fields, but nonetheless, he is an above-average starter who could certainly help an offensive line that is looking to improve dramatically next season.
