The Chicago Bears should look to bring back David Montgomery

After the first day of free agency, there has been little to no movement in the runningback market, perhaps primarily due to the unknown status of Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook. For the Bears, it might make more sense to re-sign their bell-cow running back David Montgomery in order to ensure that the running approach next season is as lethal as it was just a season ago. There is certainly hope that the Bears could potentially find an upgrade at running back this offseason, but resigning Montgomery would not be a step backwards for this offense.

Montgomery will likely hear offers from a number of other teams in the near future, but a reunion in Chicago could still be on the table, even if the team didn't want to make a big, financial commitment to the position. Montgomery's last season in Chicago was the worst of his career so far, but with the emergence of Justin Fields and Khalil Herbert, his regression in production should not be viewed as a regression of talent.

The former Iowa State standout still has the physicality that most teams would love to see at their tailback position, so resigning the player would be a solid move as the offense looks to get more multi-dimensional in the near future.
