The Chicago Bears will be debating plenty of free-agent candidates on their current roster and deciding which players they may want to bring back. One player who will not be in the discussion is Rasheem Green. It does not appear that he will want to return, and the Bears will not want him back, either.

The Chicago Bears and Rasheem Green will not be joining in free agency this offseason

The fit never appears to work. Green did not flash much in the preseason and a lot of fans thought he would have been cut in favor of Trevis Gipson. Still, Poles signed Green and did not draft Gipson so he gave him a chance.

Things continued into the season. Green went on to play the lowest snap count of his career, just 35.9% of the defensive snaps. His low before that year was 50.9%.

Green also had his worst season as a pass rusher. He had just 14 pressures, which is only better than his rookie season. After his rookie year, his lowest number of pressures in a year was 23. Over the past four seasons, he averaged 28 pressures per season, so this was half of his standard rates.

Green is not known as a game-changing asset, but he also is not known to be quite as unproductive as he was this past season. For the Chicago Bears, they still need depth at edge rushers, but they realize that Green is not going to be the one to provide that. For Green, he wants a fresh start with a new team and will find it sometime this offseason. These two sides are happy to go their separate ways.
