Chicago Bears 7-Round Mock Draft 2.0: Bolstering the trenches
By Ryan Olson
2nd Round, Pick #53: Gervon Dexter, IDL
A good way to bolster a defensive line would be to bring in a player like Gervon Dexter that can do it all. Dexter’s strong suit in the league will most likely be how great of a run defender he is, but he also has great upside as a pass rusher. Dexter has more than enough power to bullrush and beats linemen with his pure power, but he also wins in a variety of ways. Dexter, no matter what he plays at the next level, which might be nose tackle or 3-Tech, has all the tools to be a great building block for any defensive line.
A common criticism of Dexter is his slow get-off at times, but even though it is noticeable, it can be attributed to how much he meant to that Florida defense. Florida would rather opt to keep him on the field even when he was gassed, than have him off, simply put he was not expandable and was the heart of that defense. Dexter did the dirty work and rushed the passer like the best of them at Florida, which is why he would be a great asset for the Bears.
Not to mention he tested well at the combine, scoring a 9.18u RAS score, which as mentioned, is a focal point for this Bears front office.
