The Chicago Bears need to win the time of possession battle

Entering their week three matchup, both the Bears and the Chiefs have struggled with time of possession, averaging 27 and 29 minutes, respectively. While both teams sit in the bottom half of time of possession per team, Sunday represents an opportunity for the Bears to take control of a game, something they have failed to do on a consistent basis.

Their loss against the Buccaneers served as a good example of how a team can struggle with possessing the football; on offense, the unit could not find sustained success and finished with a number of shorter drives in both time and yardage (the Bears had just one drive with 10 or more plays) while the defense allowed numerous longer drives that both tired themselves and kept the offense out of rhythm (the Buccaneers had four dives with 10 or more plays).

Against the Chiefs, creating longer drives that eat up more of the clock will be the team's best defense against Mahomes. If the ball is in his hands less, it will naturally provide fewer opportunities for the former MVP to pick apart the defense. To be fair, the Chiefs are partly poor at clock management due to how dynamic the offense is and how quickly they can score on any given play but still, it would be paramount to create longer drives in order to keep Mahomes on the sidelines for as long as possible.
