The Chicago Bears will be without veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen for the second consecutive week as Allen continues to recover from a heel injury. Unlike last week, when Allen still traveled with the team, the veteran is not expected to be with the team today against the Indianapolis Colts.
While speaking with reporters on Friday, Matt Eberflus described Allen's decision to not travel with the team as a personal reason. It hasn't been a comforting start to Allen's career. While all accounts continue to indicate that Allen has become a mentor for rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, the fact is he needs to be on the field. The hope, if not wishful thinking, is that Allen will be ready for the Bears' Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Key Absences and Their Impact
Offensive Impact
- With Travis Homer being placed on IR on Saturday, expect the Bears to get Khalil Herbert and Roschon Johnson more involved in the offense. Considering the struggles that the Bears have had with running the ball, Herbert could see some increased snaps against a Colts' defense that has struggled against the run to open the season. Similarly, given their struggles in pass protection, Johnson could finally be involved in the offensive game plans this season.
- Another week removed from his Grade 1 MCL Sprain, today could be the day that we see Rome Odunze more involved in the Bears' passing game. As long as Allen is going to be sidelined with his heel injury, Odunze's development is an important element of the Bears' offense.
Defensive Impact
- Zacch Pickens continues to fall further down the defensive line depth chart as it has been a struggle for him to get on the field. Considering the success that Andrew Billings and Gervon Dexter Sr. have had this season, Pickens' injury has become an afterthought.
Special Teams Impact
- Travis Homer's injury will also be felt on special teams. Homer, who has seen an increased role on offense this season, was originally signed due to his ability to thrive in special teams coverage.
