The Chicago Bears have a scrambling playmaker

Last season I spoke with great pride that Darnell Mooney has all the tools to become a number-one receiver for the Chicago Bears. He is fast, runs good routes, and has excellent hands. Unfortunately, the fifth-round pick isn't talented enough to become that guy. I am here today to tell you that Justin Fields has the talent to become a cornerstone top-tier NFL quarterback. I am talking about the Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and Lamar Jackson types of the world. What do we know about Justin Fields? He could be Jammal Charles (hopefully not the injuries), with the ability to throw.

Justin Fields running ability is beyond electric. That matters for more than "YouTube highlights." I think only some understand how great of an advantage Fields has with his 0-60 running ability. The rushing numbers are great, but some need to be used more. Fields ran for 65 first downs with a long of 67 yards. Lamar Jackson has reached 65 or more first downs once and has never had that long of a run in his NFL career. Michael Vick has never reached either number. What that means is when Fields decides to run, he gets downhill fast.

According to Next Gen Stats, Fields had more 20+ mph carries than any player in the NFL since 2018 (in a single season). That player who had more in 2018 is Tyreek Hill. I can't explain how fast that is. The 40-yard dash only shows how fast a player can be on the football field. Guys like Cooper Kupp and Jerry Rice prove it's only a measurement because they are fast on the field.
