If you missed it, former Chicago Bears running back, David Montgomery made some comments recently on a Lions streaming video that featured Montgomery and C.J. Gardner-Johnson playing NBA2K. Gardner-Johnson threw some fuel on the fire when asking Montgomery about playing in a losing era while in Chicago.

Montgomery responded:

"That is all I was used to. And it got to a point where it sucked the fun out of the game for me because I am a competitor. I like to compete. That is what football is about. It is so refreshing to be in a place where that is appreciated."

During Khalil Herbert's press conference at voluntary OTAs on Wednesday, Herbert had this to say about David Montgomery's comments:

"Losing sucks, not that I know that other guys experienced it, but losing sucks at the end of the day. I know nobody was too happy to lose last year. And that’s one thing I feel like we’re trying to change this year. I was happy for him, just being able to get paid, get his money. Obviously, as a brother I miss him. I’ll get to see him twice a year so that’ll be good.”"

When talking about the current roster and the culture inside the locker room, Herbert continued with this comment:

"We’ve got a great group of guys. Everybody coming in with that mindset of getting better every day and having fun, you could see it out there on the field. You could feel it in the building.”"

One thing I noted with the David Montgomery comment was that it was being misquoted on social media. Montgomery never spoke about the franchise or fans not appreciating him. Instead, the comment likely had more to do with last year's 3-14 season. Clearly, people within the organization were not doing everything they could to win each week and the tanking paid off with the first-overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Chicago Bears have made some drastic changes to the roster, but this is not a Super Bowl contender. The team will hopefully fight and compete for a playoff spot. Another fourth-place finish in the NFC North will be a tough pill to swallow in 2023. No one should blame these players for complaining about losing and stating how losing sucks the life out of them. I know watching the Bears lose each week sucks the life out of me too.
