The Chicago Bears leaked what Justin Fields must do to be annointed the franchise QB
The quarterback position has been a curse for the Chicago Bears
Fast forward to 2017 and the Chicago Bears trade up to select Mitch Trubisky. Trubisky was never the guy I wanted, but I also (along with 90% of analysts) never thought Patrick Mahomes was the top option either. Instead, I wanted Deshaun Watson. We know how that story was massaged out and only Mahomes came out of that draft smelling like roses.
Fast forward again to 2021. In a desperation move, Ryan Pace trades up from 20th overall to 11 and selects Ohio State quarterback, Justin Fields. I couldn't replicate on paper just how happy I was with that move. Watching guys like Trey Lance and Zach Wilson go ahead of Fields made me smile. Fields was my QB2 in that draft class behind Trevor Lawrence. Seeing him slip to 11 and the Chicago Bears move up to draft him turned my Bears' depression into hope once again. I had never been this stoked about a quarterback prospect the Bears drafted in my lifetime.
Things are not exactly working out the way I had hoped. Fields has shown flashes of elite quarterback play, while also showing us he cannot be trusted. Most of that is on the coaching staffs he has been cursed with, but some of it is also on him. Well, Ryan Poles declares what he needs to see from Justin Fields moving forward in an anonymous leak to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
