4. The Chicago Bears edge rusher depth chart is settling in

While Terrell Lewis may be winning a spot on the back end, the Chicago Bears may be watching two names secure their spots as well. As we noted, both Rasheem Green and Dominique Robinsson are ahead of Gipson and Lewis.

Fans are disappointed that they are not producing as much in the preseason, but they are playing far less than Lewis and Gipson, and they are playing the better competition. More than that, the Bears are letting Lewis and Gipson get after it to win jobs, while Green and Robinson are being asked to fill specific roles.

As we noted, the Chicago Bears kicked Rasheem Green inside to rush over the guard. That appears to be part of why they signed him. Dominique Robinson dropped into coverage at times, flashing the athletic ability we all knew he had.

Who is to say that if they were asked to just rush the passer in the second half that they would have the same success as Lewis and Gipson? They are filling roles that will be used in the regular season, and are more valued than beat the third-string guy with a move that may not work against starters.

This is what pushes them ahead of Gipson and Lewis, and nothing that they did in this preseason game says differently. If anything, the roles they played show how much further they are in the plans than Gipson.
