8 major changes the Chicago Bears need to make
By Ryan Heckman
5. Fire Ryan Poles
Like Eberflus, when the Bears hired Ryan Poles, I had my doubts but I saw a lot of positives. Coming from the Kansas City Chiefs organization seemed like a great start, for one. Having been part of the team that drafted Patrick Mahomes and has developed so much talent in Kansas City is something Poles could hang his hat on.
Remember the inspiring video of Poles' first day on the job? He got to the building bright and early, before anyone else, and was ready to go to work. It felt nice, didn't it? It sure did.
Unfortunately, things have taken a drastic turn since then. While he did a great job of building up assets, clearing cap space and setting the organization up for positive changes, Poles has failed to take advantage of the pre-work he did. The Bears spent money, they used that extra draft capital, and still look like maybe the worst team in football.
Poles has missed on some draft picks. He hasn't been able to take advantage of all the cap space the Bears ammassed. But, most importantly, Poles has not put the right staff in place to help Justin Fields succeed and for the defense to finally turn things around.
