Round 2, 53 Overall: Gervon Dexter, DL, Florida

If the Chicago Bears cannot get Jalen Carter, you could seriously consider Gervon Dexter being the next best thing. Dexter had a career that was nothing but flashes and a lack of quality substance, but this is a player who could easily have his best days ahead of him. He saw a coaching staff change between his sophomore and junior season, and it did not help his development.

Still, athletically, and physically, he has the upside of someone like Chris Jones. You can see it in bits and flashes, but it certainly does not come consistently in his tape.

Chris Jones fell into the second round because his tape was inconsistent and he had a lot of the same questions that Dexter is bringing. The comparison comes up for many people because the original coaching staff that recruited him to Florida was the staff at Mississippi State when Chris Jones was there.

The Chicago Bears brought Dexter to Halas Hall for a visit. If they think that he will buy in and that they can mold him into their future at 3-technique, this may be the best outcome. With Paris Johnson and Gervon Dexter, they may have nailed the two most important positions for the head coach and General Managers sides of the football.
