The Chicago Bears are going to have to address wide receiver at some point this offseason. While Courtland Sutton is under contract with the Denver Broncos, they may be a team that is taking trade calls for the talented wide receiver. If that is the case, the Bears would be a great fit.
Chicago Bears would be silly not to pursue a trade for Courtland Sutton with the Denver Broncos
First, it makes sense for the Denver Broncos. They could save $9.6M this year if they moved Sutton, whether it be trade or release. The Broncos are a team with a new coaching staff that is starting to turn the roster over. They do not have a quarterback and will be looking to rebuild the roster and find one at some point.
This does not sound like the best situation for Sutton, and it certainly does not sound like the Broncos are a team that wants to keep him around if the trade offer is right.
Courtland Sutton broke out in his second NFL season with 1,112 yards and 2.08 yards per route run, but an ACL tear in 2020 derailed things. Sutton has recorded 770 or more yards in each of the last three years but has not topped 850 yards in any of those years. He went from 1.43 yards per route run to 1.55 and 1.66 last season.
Still, Sutton is just 28 years old and has not been in the best situation for the last couple of years. His efficiency went up each of the past three years despite losing the coaches and front office members who were once in his corner.
The Bears could trade for Sutton and have a big body from D.J. Moore that can attack down the field. They could add a third receiver in the draft and enter 2024 with a full arsenal of weapons that a rookie quarterback deserves. If the Denver Broncos are going to listen to offers for Courtland Sutton, the Chicago Bears have to be a team that is calling.
