Should Chicago Bears have interest in Nate Davis in free agency?

The Chicago Bears will need to upgrade their offensive line. If they do this during free agency, one name to keep an eye on is Nate Davis, who spent the last four seasons with the Tennessee Titans.

Should Chicago Bears sign Nate Davis in free agency?

Nate Davis was a former third-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft. He hit the ground running and started as a rookie, then went on to start all four years of his rookie salary contract. Davis will be 27 years old next season, he will only be in his fifth NFL season, and with that experience, it is hard for the Chicago Bears to not be interested.

These are the types of free agents that Ryan Poles wants to bet on. While he was not blocking for a mobile quarterback, Nate Davis was in a run-heavy system with Derrick Henry. Needless to say, his run blocking became his strength with the Titans.

The only reason he may not fit the team is that he spent his entire career as a right guard. If the Chicago Bears signed him, would they keep him there, or would they move him? What would that mean for Teven Jenkins, who excelled, but also has not been this new staff's favorite player?

The team needs a left guard more than a right guard, and despite Davis being nearly perfect in every other way, this is a big question that would have to be asked.

Money could make David want to move to the left side. Spotrac has him projected for three years, and $22.4M, which is about $7.4M per year. PFF has him in a similar range, as they project four years, and $32M.

If the Chicago Bears are asking him to move to the left side, would they need to pay closer to $10M per year, while other teams are offering him $7-8? Would that be what gets the deal done? Considering they plan to save nearly $10M per year by letting Cody Whitehair go, they could make this a pretty clean swap.
