Will Chicago Bears have Nate Davis switch sides?

When the Chicago Bears signed Nate Davis it certainly was an interesting fit. Davis is a great, powerful guard from a run-heavy team, so that made sense just fine. However, he spent his whole NFL career at right guard, and the majority of his college career was also on the right side.

You could argue the Bears had a need for a left guard more than a right guard, so there was a real question as to what the signing meant for Teven Jenkins. Ryan Poles had an interesting response and directed it immediately to Cody Whitehair.

Are Chicago Bears moving Nate Davis to left guard?

The key here is that he did not say who would be playing left guard. The main takeaway is that OTAs and training camp will decide things. Jenkins played left tackle at OTAs and Braxton Jones played right tackle, so these things are not set yet.

However, the vibe has to be that Nate Davis is the one switching. He never mentioned Teven Jenkins at all in his response. When asked about how Nate Davis fits, he said that Cody Whitehair could play center.

The takeaway from that should be that Whitehair moving over frees up left guard and answers the question of where Nate Davis fits. So, for now, Chicago Bears should probably continue to pencil in Teven Jenkins at right guard. This can be backed up by the reality that the first player Chicago went after was Ben Powers.

They missed on Powers and then signed Davis a few hours later. It was always to fill the left guard hole, Davis was rated below Powers because he would be switching sides.

The team could draft somebody that changes everything. Jenkins could miss a few days, Davis could slide over and never look back.

However, for now, the thought is that Nate Davis will move to the left side. The question from there is how smart or cost effective it was to pay big money to someone and then ask them to switch sides. Still, this does make a bit more sense than rewarding Jenkins for his impressive season by then asking him to move. At least with Davis you probably told him th
