Chicago Bears need this position group to step up more than others

As the Chicago Bears get ready for the 2024 NFL season the team has plenty of positions where things are upgraded compared to last year. The roster is in a much better spot, and they should expect to win more games.

Can Chicago Bears get more from their defensive line in 2024?

One position group that could make or break just how far the Bears go is the defensive line. Overall, Caleb Williams has one of the best sets of pass-catchers and playmakers that a number one overall pick can have. The offensive line is in the best spot it has been in for a while.

The linebackers are expensive, but we know what to expect and the secondary is the strength of the team. This leaves us with the defensive line being a game-changing unit.

Montez Sweat does not bring many questions, but there are issues with the rest. Fans love what Andrew Billings did last year, but that is far from a consistent thing for him. The Bears are hoping for both Gervon Dexter and Zacch Pickens to ascend this year, and the rest of the depth along the interior is questionable. Michael Dwumfour and Byron Cowart have experience but neither took a snap last season.

The depth and top-end talent along the interior is a question mark. On the edge, DeMarcus Walker is solid but would be best as a number three. If he was not asked to do as much on the edge, he could help the interior group as well but that is not the case right now.

Jacob Martin and Austin Booker were added, but it is a question as to what type of impact either can make next year. Booker is a rookie with limited playing time, while Martin has a much lower ceiling.

The rest of the roster is coming together, but the defensive line is a major question mark. If they get key players to step up, they may win more games than expected.
