Reports are that the Chicago Bears are interested in this former Colts defensive end
Rumors have been swirling for months now that the Chicago Bears are interested in adding a defensive end to the roster. The team reported to training camp today and that meant press conferences took place again. One of those press conferences included head coach Matt Eberflus and general manager Ryan Poles.
While addressing the media, Ryan Poles was asked about comments he made earlier this offseason about planning on adding an edge rusher sooner, rather than later. The question specifically asked was if Poles was certain he'd add one before the season starts and if you don't, will you be happy with what you've got?
"Obviously, there's no certainty, it takes two to make sure that it works out. So there's a level of patience that comes with it. There's no guarantee. If not, no, I'm excited about the guys who are here. [DeMarcus] Walker has done a great job. [Dominique] Robinson is coming along. [Trevis] Gipson is coming along. I'm happy with the guys who are here, but obviously, we are going to look to improve."

Reports are that the Chicago Bears are interested in Justin Houston
There are a few things to dissect from Ryan Poles' answer yesterday. First, it definitely sounds like the team has been in negotiations with at least one free agent or maybe with a team regarding a trade. When he states that it takes two to make sure it works out, he isn't wrong. There are other teams involved in free agency and it's possible that if they were looking to make a trade the two sides could not come to an agreement. With recent rumors heating up that the Chicago Bears are interested in free-agent pass rusher, Justin Houston, I'm thinking that free agency was more likely than a trade.
Peggy Kusinski of ESPN Chicago is the one reporting that a source has disclosed that the Chicago Bears are among the teams interested in signing Justin Houston. That would be a great addition to this roster. Houston is no longer a spring chicken, but his production has yet to slow down. He'd instantly be the best edge rusher on the roster and has familiarity with this defense because he played under Matt Eberflus in Indianapolis. He had 19 sacks over that two-year span with the Colts.
Justin Houston has been on the top of my wish list when it comes to pass rushers for quite some time. He's a more complete defensive end than say Yannick Ngakoue. That said, I'd be happy with Ngakoue in a Chicago Bears uniform as well. I do believe they need to sign someone as the other thing I noted in Ryan Poles' comment was how DeMarcus Walker has done a great job, yet Dominique Robinson and Trevis Gipson are only coming along. That's telling since Walker is new to the team/system and Robinson and Gipson should be receiving higher praise in year two.
I was hopeful that Trevis Gipson could bounce back this year, but maybe he's better off at the outside linebacker spot in a 3-4 defense. Do you want to see the Chicago Bears add an edge rusher? If yes, who would you prefer?
