Chicago Bears Free-Agent Target: Troy Hill, CB

The Bears' defense couldn't get pressure on opposing quarterbacks and couldn't stop the run in 2022. The passing defense was slightly better, finishing 18th in passing yards allowed per game.

However, the secondary in Chicago is extremely young, with Kyler Gordon, Tyrique Stevenson, and Terell Smith all short of their 25th birthday and all figuring to play plenty of snaps. Gordon is the primary nickelback for now, but he struggled mightily as a rookie in 2022 finishing with a PFF grade of 49.8. Perhaps the Bears could add a veteran with nickel experience to push the young corner.

Troy Hill has made a career out of being a reliable nickel corner. Hill manned the slot for the Rams from 2015-2020 before joining the Browns in 2021. Hill's best season came in 2020 with the Rams when the corner collected three interceptions and 77 tackles. Hill returned to the Rams in 2022 and produced another quality season even while dealing with an injury.

At the very least, Gordon could learn a thing or two from the solid veteran. Hill would be worth a flyer on a one-year deal.
