5 Chicago Bears players in danger after first unofficial depth chart released
By Ryan Heckman
2. Khalil Herbert, RB
For right now, Khalil Herbert is still the starting running back. However, reports out of training camp have stated that there's been a lot to like about D'Onta Foreman, both in the run and pass game. Foreman has been effective and looked every bit of a starter during the time he's gotten with the ones.
So far, Herbert and Foreman have split much of their time with the starters, and there have been many times where Foreman has looked better. That's not an indictment on Herbert, either. Herbert's skill set might just fit better as the third down back, or even a change of pace back who still receives plenty of work throughout the game.
When the Bears originally signed Foreman, most fans would agree that he would come in and be the backup, no questions asked. But, so far, the veteran is making the most of his opportunity on a 1-year deal, and that's a good thing. The Bears have tons of talent at the running back position, and whoever winds up starting will have won the job in a hard-fought manner.
For now, we can enjoy watching the battle unfold and be thankful for two talented veterans leading the way, one way or another.
