As the Chicago Bears enter the offseason stage before training camp there will be little movement on the roster. However, as the pads get on and things ramp up in training camp, that will change quickly.

Who are five players on the roster that we may not see when things dwindle down to 53?

5. Is Cody Whitehair a lock for the Chicago Bears roster?

The Chicago Bears have surprised plenty by keeping Cody Whitehair on the roster. While it does seem likely that he will spend at least one more year with the team, it also is not set in stone yet. Of course, the team could save about $10M if they move on from Whitehair. They are not in a rush to find cap space, but they could roll the extra savings over to next year.

Beyond that, he may be one of the few players that could get something back in a trade. He has plenty of starting experience. The question for the Chicago Bears is whether he is right for this team. He is probably best at left guard, but now the team has him sliding back to center.

This could be fine, but another factor is that Whitehair is now 31 years old, and has missed a few games in two of the past three seasons. Beyond that, his play is starting to drop. So, he could be a find plug and play starter for a few games, but he does not feel like the long-term option.

Lucas Patrick is younger and was signed to be the answer at center. Beyond that, Doug Kramer and Dieter Eiselen are still on rookie deals, so not only are they cost-effective, they are much younger.

It was notable when Chris Morgan said that all four guys would compete at center, and not that Whitehair would be the obvious answer. If the Chicago Bears feel that both Patrick and Kramer are good enough to be the starter and backup, why not take a late pick to shed some of the salary of Whitehair, and get a little bit younger?
