5 Chicago Bears under the most pressure in 2023
3. Chase Claypool has serious money on the line in 2023
This season will be everything for Chase Claypool from a monetary standpoint. If you are looking at his rookie season or his second year, we are seeing a player who will be making serious money on the open market.
However, the Pittsburgh Steelers traded him because they do not see him as someone worth that money. During his third season, he did nothing but prove them right. He has been awful for the Chicago Bears.
You can say it is a small sample, and he changed teams on the fly, and that is a tough adjustment, but it should have never been that bad, either. So, now he is entering a year where anything can happen on the field and off of it.
If he has 1,000 yards and heads into free agency looking like D.K. Metcalf, someone is going to pay him an insane amount. If his fourth year is on the same level as his third, he is going to be waiting a week or two into free agency to find a salary. Not many players will enter a contract year with the possibility of anywhere from $5-$18M being his range for his next contract. Chase Claypool is that rare player. Life-changing money is on the line, which is pressure-packed.
