Chicago Bears Pending Free Agent: Jaylon Johnson, CB

If Cole Kmet is the pending free agent most likely to be extended, then Jaylon Johnson is probably the least likely of the group. Johnson brings some superb talent to the club, but he lacks in takeaways and that is something Matt Eberflus puts an emphasis on. The other issue is Johnson's health. Since being drafted in 2020, Jaylon Johnson has missed 22% of games.

Where Jaylon Johnson shines is by keeping wide receivers in check. He has yet to allow more than 60% of his targets to be completed. He goes up against the top receivers each week and shuts most of them down. Alright, shutting them down might be too strong as he has allowed 11 touchdowns throughout his career, but when you guard guys like Mike Evans, A.J. Brown and others of that magnitude, those guys will get the best of everyone at times.

Spotrac has Jaylon Johnson projected to earn $23 million over three years. His annual average salary comes in at $7.7 million. I'm not sure that number is high enough. This contract puts him in line with past contracts of Charvarious Ward and Emmanuel Moseley. It would put him outside of the top 30 in regard to salary for cornerbacks. I expect him to be inside the top 25 and that would mean his average annual salary should come in between $8.5 million and $9 million per year.

Next. Starters gone in 2024. 5 Bears unlikely to return in 2024. dark
