Going into the 2024 offseason, there were some unknowns for the Chicago Bears. For one, fans had no idea the team was going to invest so heavily in offensive weapons like the trade for Keenan Allen, the signing of D'Andre Swift or the eventual drafting of Rome Odunze.
The one thing we knew, quicker than any other move to be made, was that the Bears would ultimately use the no. 1 overall pick on quarterback Caleb Williams. General manager Ryan Poles knew what he was going to do with the pick far before the height of what the media wanted you to believe was an actual "decision" needing to be made between Williams and Justin Fields.
Fast forward a few months, and these Bears are in a position most fans wouldn't have believed if you'd had told them about it three years ago. From when Poles took over to now, the Bears are a completely different team, top to bottom. It took a couple of years for the plan to truly come to fruition, but once Chicago was lucky enough to land the no. 1 overall pick again, all of the cap-clearing transactions and youthful moves started to make sense.
In fact, they started to make too much sense. The arrival of Williams is likely what nudged Poles to make the move for Allen, who's 32 years old and on the last year of his contract. The Bears are, indeed, ready to compete sooner rather than later. The future is now.
As the team has worked their way through training camp, Williams has continued to learn the ropes of the offense while taking over as this organization's leader. Teammates and coaches have encouraged Williams to embrace the role, and he has.
Now, there's only one major "transaction" left to make before the start of the regular season, and that will be to trim the roster down to 53 players, en route to the final product. Camp has seen some fierce battles going on when we're talking about, potentially a couple of starting positions, but the real competition stems from many of the players trying to simply make the team and find a spot toward the bottom of the depth chart.
As the Bears work their way through preseason and training camp, we will have all of the latest roster cuts tracked, with up-to-date releases as they happen. Below, you will find a running list of players the Bears have opted to cut.
