Chicago Bears Roster: 3 Under-the-radar defensive free agents the Bears could add
Chicago Bears Free Agent Target: Armani Watts, S
A possible free agent the Chicago Bears could add via free agency is Armani Watts. Watts has a direct connection to Ryan Poles. He was a fourth-round draft pick for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2018. Poles was the Assistant Director of Personnel for the Chiefs at the time. He was signed by the Colts in 2022, but an ankle injury before the regular season even started derailed the year. He spent all season on injured reserve and was not retained.
The Chicago Bears could use some safety depth and Armani Watts could be the perfect option if fully healthy. He is only 27 years old and isn't going to be counted on as a starter. What he brings to the table though is the ability to step in if needed and help on special teams.
In 2021, Watts played in 16 games. He finished the year with 19 combined tackles (11 solos), a tackle for loss, and a fumble recovery. 10 of those tackles came on special teams. During the playoffs, he played in three games and finished with nine combined tackles (four solos). Two of those tackles were special teams stops. Adding Watts to the roster won't be a splash, but he makes sense.
