8 Chicago Bears players who will soon be cut
By Ryan Heckman
3. D'Anthony Jones, DE
The Bears suddenly have a group of hungry and competitive defensive ends led by preseason standout and 2022 starter Trevis Gipson. The former fifth-round pick has had a superb preseason and looks like he's going to contribute in a big way within this rotation.
The Bears will likely keep Yannick Ngakoue, DeMarcus Walker, Gipson, Terrell Lewis, Dominique Robinson and Rasheem Green, giving them a whopping six edge rushers. That would leave undrafted rookie D'Anthony Jones on the outside looking in with a shot at the practice squad, from there.
4. DeMarquis Gates, OLB
Isn't it nice seeing linebacker become a strength once again for the Bears? T.J. Edwards, Tremaine Edmunds and Jack Sanborn look like the sure fire starters, as they should. Behind those two, the Bears might end up keeping just two on the active roster. more than likely, it'll be rookie Noah Sewell and then either Mykai Walker or Dylan Cole.
That would leave veterans Barrington Wade and Davion Tayler without a spot, along with undrafted rookie Micah Baskerville. It also means the end of the road for veteran DeMarquis Gates, who spent much of last year on the team's practice squad and very well could be in the same spot this season.
