Chicago Bears 2023 roster ranking: No. 70 Jalen Harris
While we continue counting down the days until the Chicago Bears return to training camp, we are taking a deep dive into the roster. This list is looking at who are the best players on the roster when it comes to the 2023 season. We started at 90 and have worked into the top 70. Today, we focus on number 70, edge rusher Jalen Harris.
Chicago Bears 2023 roster ranking: No. 70 Jalen Harris
Jalen Harris is a rookie UDFA from Arizona. Coming in with next to nothing proven and being undrafted cannot help you get too high on an initial ranking, but 70 is about as high as someone like Harris can get.
That is because he does have a few things going for him. First, he has a lot of athletic upside. Not many of the edge rushers on the Bears roster are known for winning with athletic ability, as the Bears signed some power rushers in DeMarcus Walker and Rasheem Green.
So, the speed threat may be a nice compliment and may keep Harris close to the roster. Beyond that, the edge rusher depth is just questionable. Green and Walker are usually depth guys, but now they are starting. Trevis Gipson took a huge step back, and Dominique Robinson is still viewed as a project.
From there, Terrell Lewis has talent but has not reached it, and was let go by the Rams last year. There is an easy path for Harris. He may need to be Lewis for edge rusher five, but the top four are locks to make the roster, and there are certainly enough questions that Harris could find himself squeezing into that space.
Now, it is worth remembering that Harris is a UDFA for a reason. Despite the athletic traits, he went from 20 pressures in 2021 down to 14 last season, and he is a sixth-year player, so there is not much more for him to gain in experience.
The odds are that Harris will not make a huge impact and will struggle to get into the top five edge rushers. A year on the practice squad may help, and with this depth chart, it may mean a call-up in the middle of the season.
