Chicago Bears 2023 roster ranking: No. 82 Edge D'Anthony Jones
We are counting down the Chicago Bears roster to get ready for the start of the 2023 season. This ranking will focus on which players have the best chance to make the roster and who will have the most significant impact on wins and losses when the season rolls around. We are still early into the list with number 82, D'Anthony Jones.
Chicago Bears 2023 roster ranking: No. 82 Edge D'Anthony Jones
D'Anthony Jones is a UDFA rookie from Houston. He started his career in Junior College and transferred to Houston during the 2020 season. Jones was a reserve in 2020 and 2021 before finally earning a starting role and having the best year of his career in 2022. However, the late breakout and poor athletic testing had him fall to the UDFA portion of the draft.
Considering where he stands as a prospect, it is hard to see him making the roster. Perhaps a year on the practice squad would be a big win for D'Anthony Jones at this stage of his career. That is why he did not crack into the top 80. However, he was not quite at the bottom of the roster, and that is mainly because of the position he plays.
The Chicago Bears are weak on the edges, and no one can argue differently. Yes, they signed DeMarcus Walker and Rasheem Green, but those are not game-changing names. The team also has a UDFA rookie in Jalen Harris, who will be discussed later. So, while Jones will be behind all of these names, he at least will be in the mix and given a fair chance to compete with anyone on the roster.
D'Anthony Jones weighs about 270 pounds, so he fits what the Bears are looking for from their edge rushers, which is the needed size to hold up against the outside runs. He may not bring much as a pass rusher, but if he can hold up against the run, the team will at least have interest in keeping him around the practice squad. For where he stands right now, that could be a fine 2023 season.
