The countdown until the Chicago Bears get back on the field is underway. While we wait, we are also counting down the Chicago Bears' 90-man roster. This will be handicapping who has the best chances to make the roster and who will bring the most value to the 2023 team. We are onto number 85.

Chicago Bears roster ranking 2023: No. 85 Donovan Jeter

Donovan Jeter is entering his second season in the NFL. He signed as a UDFA with the Pittsburgh Steelers last year but did not stick around for very long. Jeter returned to their practice squad, but the Washington Commanders brought him in. He ended up playing just 18 snaps as a rookie.

The Commanders kept Jeter through October but then let him go. He spent the rest of the year unsigned before signing a futures deal with the Bears in January. That bought him a ticket to training camp, but it is hard to see him getting too much further.

He signed before the Chicago Bears signed Andrew Billings, then drafted Gervon Dexter, Zacch Pickens, and Travis Bell. The depth chart was one of the weakest in the NFL when he signed, and now it is hard to see him making the roster. Given the investments in the names above him, he can only make the roster as the fifth man in the rotation, beating out the seventh-round rookie Travis Bell.

Still, even Andrew Brown and Jalyn Holmes played for the Chicago Bears last year and were brought back. Both were better prospects coming out and have lived up to their expectations more. These two also have inside-outside versatility, where Jeter is closer to a nose tackle.

The Chicago Bears signed Donovan Jeter because they needed depth. They added depth in the offseason and now he looks like a camp body. That is what has him this close to number 90 on our list. We will see if he can turn heads in training camp.
